On Wednesday (July 26), President Donald Trump announced on Twitter a ban on transgender soldiers openly serving in any capacity within the United States armed forces. This anti-LGBTQ stance brought about a swift response from those who stand with transgender people, including many from the music community.
Billboard Pride, with the support of GLAAD, asked artists to submit videos to send a message to the trans community (and the world). The response was overwhelming: we received videos from Sia, Michael Stipe, Rita Ora and The Chainsmokers. Other participants include: Bob the Drag Queen, Bonnie McKee, CupcakKe, Dave1 of Chromeo, Dina Delicious, Dua Lipa, Jackie Cruz, Juliet and Jackie Evancho, Justin Tranter, K.Flay, Kirstin Maldonado, Lynn Gunn of Pvris, Marshmello, Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying of Superfruit, Peppermint, Sarah Kate Ellis (President & CEO of GLAAD), Sasha Velour, Shamir, Shea Diamond and Wrabel. The video intro features “Maybe Someday,” a new track by TAMI.
Prior to launching the video, Billboard Pride streamed a Facebook Live performance with Shea Diamond, where she sang her trans anthem “I Am Her” acapella. Check out the project, as well as Shea’s “I Am Her” official music video, below.
